PELVIC FLOOR

1 in 3 women suffer with some form of pelvic floor dysfunction, fewer than half seek help!

New to Pilates or haven’t exercised in years?

Have you been out of the exercise world for a very long time or are new to Pilates, no problem?  Do you want to be strong, balanced and have power over your pain? Then, it’s time to learn how to do core strengthening Pilates exercises.  Your best health insurance is caring for yourself. Engaging in a Pilates exercise program shows that you care for yourself and are proactive about your future health.  Learn safe exercise programs to obtain muscle strength and postural alignment so you can remain injury free.

What is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction?

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction refers to a group of clinical conditions that includes urinary and anal incontinence, urinary sensory urgency, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, organ prolapse, complications due to pregnancy and childbirth.

What Causes Pelvic Floor Dysfunction?

General lack of fitness and muscle tone, being overweight, poor posture and excessive sitting, pregnancy and childbirth, trauma following surgery such as an episiotomy, trauma to pelvis, hip or spine.

What are the Advantages of a healthy Pelvic Floor?

Ability to maintain control over urination and defecation, decreased likelihood of organ prolapse, improved sexual function and satisfaction, ease in pregnancy, labor, delivery and post natal recovery.

What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is made up of three muscle groups.  Each of these groups make up a distinct layer that consists of 5-6 bands. Ideally, these bands all work seamlessly together. When that’s the case they are like an incredibly strong, elastic trampoline that stretches from tailbone to the pubic bone (back to front) and from one sitting bone to the other (side to side).  These muscles provide support and structure to the abdominal and pelvic organs.

How do I heal my Pelvic Floor?

Join in on my classes and I will teach you how to find your pelvic floor and engage it as well as release it.  A Pelvic floor can be too tight (hypertonic) which leads to frequent urination, low back pain, hip pain, poor posture.  If you have a hypertonic pelvic floor you have a holding or tension pattern that you must learn to release.  Once you learn to release that holding pattern we work on strengthening your pelvic floor with proper muscle engagement and alignment.

BALANCE & FALL RISK PREVENTION

The CDC states that 1 out of 4 seniors fall at least once a year often leading to serious injury or fractures.

Falls happen during transitions, rapid movements or changes in direction.  Life is always in motion! Pilates provides an opportunity to practice adapting to change and building resistance.  Strengthening and working on stability through Pilates is the key to accident prevention. Good balance helps us with mundane tasks, like carrying groceries and reaching for an item on the top shelf and with more complex movements such as dancing. Come join Christina and learn how to find Balance and Stability in your body.
